Loyola?s Hall of Fame honors Hymel

Loyola University New Orleans honored former members of their athletic program at the university's Hall of Fame induction ceremony recently.
The honorees were Roland Hymel, Jr., B'53, for archery; Butler Powell, Jr., B'60, G'69, for baseball; and the 1971 Baseball Team. The recipient of the St. Sebastian Award was Robert Reed.
This award is presented to the person who has given continuous support and dedication to the athletic program of the university.
All activities were conducted at Loyola's main campus at 6363 St. Charles Avenue.
The Hall of Fame was created in 1964 and reinstated in 1993 with the return of intercollegiate athletics to Loyola's campus.
Hymel, Jr., who is a resident of Waveland, is president of Roland Hymel, Jr. and Associates, Inc.
More than 175 people attended the induction ceremony.

university's first archery team, formed in 1950. The Wolfpack closed their inaugural campaign by winning Louisiana's collegiate championship and were named #5 in the nation by the National	Archery
Association (NAA).
That year he was named the #2 collegiate archer in the country by the NAA, a title he would garner again in 1952 and 1953. Loyola finished the 1951-52 season as Louisiana's champions
and were ranked second nationally, behind Arizona State.
Hymel led Loyola to the state championship again in 1953, a year in which he received individual honors in city, state, and national competitions.
He also competed in track and field and was inducted into the Loyola Athletic Hall of Fame in February 1999 with other members of the 1951 and 1952 track and field teams.
