Special to the Echo
Continuing a family custom which began soon after the turn )f this century, members of the Kergosien family gathered dur-ng the weekend of April 1 at the )ld family home here to cele-srate the reunion of family nembers after a lapse of several ^ears.
Each member of the Kergosien clan, descendants of Adol-)he Kergosien of Britany, France and Elodie Mauffray, las deep roots in Bay St. Louis, jach having been born and ?eared here or, at least, having
spent much time here.
Dr. A. A. Kergosien, son of Adolphe and Elodie Kergosien, moved his family to Bay St. Louis in 1911 after a successful medical practice in the Kiln-Fenton area and became active in church, civic and political affairs.
His business interests included ownership of the Beach Drug Store which was finally destroyed in 1969 by Hurricane Camille.
Dr. Kergosien and his wife Lavinia Cuevas were the parents of Emmett, Horace,
Clara, Laurent, Ogden, Hazel
(Blaize) and Charles, all deceased, and Murhl Kergosien Morlan of this city.
At present the Kergosien clan in America consists of 97 members, all descendants of Adolphe and the only people in this country who are known to have the Kergosien name.
The reunion focused primarily on the third generation, the great-grandchildren of Adolphe and Elodie, although members of the fourth and fifth generations were included in some of the weekend?s activities.
Deceased family members include Phil Kergosien and Karen Kergosien Treutel.
Activities included a reunion banquet on Friday evening at Chappy?s Restaurant, followed on Saturday by a picnic in Kiln at the home of Kinta Kergosien Maloney in close proximity to the original homestead of Adolphe Kergosien.
On Sunday, the reunion of the third generation was held at the old family home on Carroll Avenue originally owned by Dr. and Mrs. A. A. Kergosien and presently owned by Gaines and Marian Kergosien.
