INTRODUCTION
I had been considering writing my autobiography on the years spent with the 31st Infantry (Dixie) Division (1941-1945) for some time. I have given thought to my life during that period and found it has lessons and values that are important to me, things I would like to share with others.
I have searched for a higher meaning in the events that have transpired, and seek to dignify the days associated with Company "M"	155th	Infantry Regiment, 31st Infantry (Dixie)
Division. That period of my life is too valuable to go unrecorded, forgotten in time. I believe the experiences I had during that era are among my greatest recollections, well worth remembering and retelling.
If one reader, perhaps a grandchild, personal friend, or even a stranger, gains some wisdom, knowledge or humor from reading what I have written, I have shared a part of my life in a way that only I am capable of doing. If our existence on this planet has any meaning at all, our experiences are a part of it.
