Franklin J. Cuevas, a native of Sellers Community in Hancock County and resident of Gulfport has authored a book titled ?Life History of Juan De Cuevas? and History of Cat Island and Life of Christian Lad-nier, father-in-law of Juan De Cuevas.
The publication printed and" published by Dixie Press was released on Thursday. .
Franklin Cuevas spent some five years gathering information for the publications.
The book on the life of Juan De Cuevas, hero of the War of 1812, is dedicated to his descendants and heirs.
Juan De Cuevas arrivad at Cat Island at the age of 20 from An-daliisia, Spain in 1782.
He married Helen Ladnier (Ladner), daughter of Christian Ladnier, and raised 11 children on Cat Island.
Franklin Cuevas said the city of
Pass Christian was named in the honor of Christian Ladner.
Franklin Cuevas is a fifth generation member of the Juan De Cuevas family.
He and his wife are the parents of one daughter, Juith Ann McFerren of Glen Ellen, 111.
The author states that much of the history of Cat Island, Juan De Cuevas, and Christian Ladnier was gathered from individuals and old court records.
Many of the records. were ' destroyed when the Hanccck County and Jackson County Courthouses burned Lt the mid-1800?s.
Franklin Cuev&s added, ?I have even contacted the Council Generals of Spain, Mexico, and Portugal on the distribution of this publication, since Juan De Cuevas had so many ancestors in those countries.?
?It has been my Lie?s ambition to publish this book, and I am hoping to have a second printing very soon,? the author commented.
