Mae was deathly afraid of bad weather. She and Edwina lived on Second Street at the time of hurricane on Sept. 19, 1947.
She became so overwrought with fear that I persuaded her and Edwina to go across the street to the Sellier's house. A few days later she had the	first symptom of	the cancer	that	took
her life a year later.
The history of Hancock	County is richer	because of	this	family
who set about quietly,	by example, leaving a legacy of good
moral character, work ethic (I never saw idle hands), and artistic talents which have run through the generations,
