BIOGRAPHY OF THE HONORABLE DAN M. RUSSELL, JR.
Judge Russell was appointed United States District Judge for the Southern District of Mississippi on October 2, 1965, and entered on duty on October 25, 1965. He served as Chief Judge of the Southern District of Mississippi from June 23, 1971 until October 25, 1983, at which time he retained senior status.
Judge Russell attended the University of Mississippi from 1931 to 1937, receiving a B.A. degree in 1935 and a J.D. degree in 1937. He served in World War II from 1941 to 1945, holding the rank of Lt. Commander in U.S. Naval Intelligence.
Judge Russell is married to the former Dorothy Tudury and has three children, Ronald Truett, Dorothy Dale, and Richard Brian. He is a member of the Federal Bar Association, Mississippi State Bar Association and Hancock County Bar Association.
