But now getting to another one that I sentenced for 25 years was a big guy who was tried by me in Hattiesburg. I appointed him two attorneys, a husband and wife team, very good ones, and he was convicted too. I gave him 25 years. He didn't know how to read and write until he got to the penitentiary, but he learned just enough to write me ugly letters. "Dear Judge Russell, I'm here where you sent me in the penitentiary. I wish you were here." And again he would write me later on. "I'm still here in the penitentiary where you sent me. You ain't here, but you ain't done nothing for us.
