A word about the references
I am retired, am from an industrial, rathar than an academic background, and am a first-time writer working alone in a field that is new to me and far from the area that is the subject of the work. For these reasons, the number of people I am acquainted with who might serve as references is embarasingly small, and as a result, those I have chosen do not have as great a knowledge of me and my project as might be desirable. My only other choices, however, would be neighbors, personal friends, or relatives.
Ms Nelson has agreed to edit my work. Her professional work is writing instruction manuals and other technical manuals, under contract for IBM Corp. She also does desktop publishing.
Mr. Waters is the head of the interllbrary loan department of the local library system. I have worked for a little over a year through several of his employees, and records in his department's computer contain ample objective evidence of the number and identity of library references I have used in the research for this project.
Dr. Greene is a former teacher under whom I became acquainted with methods for conducting scholarly research. Although he is not acquainted with this history project, it is my hope that he will confirm that I have received at least a reasonable exposure to the proper methods of conducting such research.
