My	name is Jean Baotiste Toulme. I	was	born at Nantes,	France,
(175QJ>	In	one of the religious wars I left	for	Santa Domingo.	In the
native uprising in Santa Domingo in which I lost everything, I emigrated t-fl-the U.S. with my family., including my son, John B. Toulme born in (ymj> I came to Mobile with $25 and my slaves.
My	son was the first postmaster for	Shieldsborough (Oct	11, 1819)
and	also postmaster 1837-1846. My son was	the	first Secretary	in the
first administration of the incorporated city of Shieldsboro in I858.
He was later mayor of Bay St. Louis.-?

My son was the first merchant in BSL (1812). He bought an unfurnished 2 room wooden structure on the corner of Union and Beach. He made a habit of putting aside every $20 gold piece into a roll which he opened on New Year's day and divided between his childrenDuring his life-time he owned property in Mobile, New Orleans, and Bay St. Louis.&
His most well known property was the Crescent Hotel on thebeach of B.S.L. (built by	Ray). it was at the junction of Railroad
and Front St. (beach). It v/as the largest hotel of its day, accomodating 100 people, with land for tennis, croquet, swings, and walks. The balmy baeeze, the excellent climate of the Gulf coast, the finest artesion well in the state - the bubbling, sparking, clear water - made the hotel the attraction of the coast.7
My son gave to the city of Bay St. Louis the land occupied by Cedar, Rest Cemetery, the Methodist Church, Masonic Temple, and the Court House. ?
My grandson, J. V. Toulme, only son of John B. Toule, inherited the proprie torship fo the Cresent Hote^ was also mayor of Bay St. Louis, '? also gave land to the Methodist Church . He was also postmaster 1857-I865. He organized the Shieldsboro Dragons in 1861 and the Shieldsboro' Rifle Corp during the Civil V/ar.^As mayor in 1893 he set aside money for the erection of the public school buidding against the consent of the majority but for which his picture hangs in the school auditorium. i? He was married 3 times (had 6 children ?) and is buried over there with his 3 wives on either side./2^
