James William Watts Jr. built the house on Washington Street partly from sunken logs in Bayou Gallere (later called Watts Bayou) (these logs made the sills) and yellow pine purchased from McDonald Lumber and Magnolia Lumber Co. The front porch was added by Chris Reab.
James William Watts Jr, son of James William Watts, Sr and Gertrude Moon Watts was born in Columbus Ohio, Oct 25, 190?. His father a Methodist, his mother Lutheran, joined the Baptist Church (BSL) because of the incluence of a school teacher, Mrs. Stockstill.
While a student at Bay High, "Bill" Watts helped K. S. Drake, County Surveyor for Hancock County. After graduation he worked as a laborer in the construction of the Pine Hill Hotel. After that he worked for 2 years for Chapman Air Service as a mechanic. Then he worked for Coast Electric Co, BSL for 5? years as operating superintendent.
He retired in 1990.
