21, 1988. During November, the church received a $10,000 donation from the Collins C. Diboll Foundation which was to be used for benevolent causes.
Our church started the new year, 1989, with a budget of $196,200. The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering goal was $6,100. During February our pastor, Nathan Barber, taught for two weeks in the Seminary in Kenya, Africa. Jack Hode resigned as Youth Director. It was voted to decrease the number of deacons. David Ratcliff and Toy Tedford were noted for serving in Home Missions at Bayside Mission and the Buccaneer State Park Ministry. A central heat and air system was installed in the church office for $2,000 and an outside system for the Fellowship Hall at a cost of $1,450. A new van was purchased for $18,518.07. The Crisis Pregnancy Center was formed at a meeting at Mississippi Power Company. The Senior Adults of the church were honored at a dinner by the younger adults of the church. During June, Dena and Judy Caplinger, Roberta Harvill, Belinda Pearce, and Darlene Underwood went to Recife, Brazil, to help in Vacation Bible School there. The church was invited to attend the Hurricane Camille Commemoration Service at the end of Ulman Avenue. The "Forget Me Not Club" was organized to keep in touch with shut-ins of the church. The Sanctuary Choir presented "Wondrous Gift" and the Children's Choir presented "Story of the Ornament" as Christmas Cantatas to end the year.
The new year, 1990, dawned on a good note. The church was informed that another $10,000 had been given to the Foundation Fund from the Collins C. Diboll Foundation to be used for benevolent needs. Also, a donation of $2,000 dollars was given to the church towards a computer by an anonymous donor. A letter was received from the local Radio Station WBSL, apologizing for the incident when their microphone was left on at the station and offensive remarks were made while services were being broadcast. On March 5, the Crisis Pregnancy Center was opened. Maiy Lee & Uless Bergeron were commissioned as Foreign Missionaries on July 27 at a service at Glorieta, New Mexico. In August, Mary Anne Blanchette went to Boliva, South America, to teach Missionary Kids and assist in Vacation Bible School. Our goal for State Missions was $1,000 dollars this year.
