up in that office it usually takes three weeks or longer to get an opinion from the attorney general's office. Joe, I am sorry that I cannot help you. This sort of situation goes on all over the state, we have the same thing here in Jackson. The Attorney General cannot help. You folks are going to have to solve that problem at local level."
In another telephone interview with an outstanding attorney whose name I will not reveal because I forgot to ask his permission I asked on Sunday evening at approximately 6:00 p.m.
Q. Should the Bay St. Louis City Clerk fail to comply with the
time limitations as set by law what recourse does the Citizens'
Group have?
A. " You must first determine who is responsible. Is the City of Bay St. Louis at fault? Is the City Clerk alone responsible?
The proper proceduee would, of course, be a law suit. I am not up on this particular issue, I would have to study the law to be certain whose responsibility it is."
At a meeting of key Board Members of the Citizens Group called for Sunday afternoon, January 30» the following key-questions were posed:
Q. Since the petition in no manner or means is a committment
on the part of the signers, but rather gives consent to bring the issue to a vote the objections raised by Commissioner Kidd are not apparent. He has unofficially announced he will be a candidate for mayor of Bay St. Louis during the upcoming election.
