Bay-Waveland Garden Clubj captures president’s trophy
Bay-Waveland Garden Club was the recipient of the State President’s Trophy and Award at the 47th annual convention of the Garden Clubs of Mississippi, Inc., held April 29-30 in Vicksburg.
The award, presented by South Central Bell, was presented to the club which “best promoted and executed the theme of the current administration.” The theme for 1975 was “Echoes of the Past - Guides for the Future.”
Accepting the award was Mrs. Lelyn Nybo, president of the Bay-Waveland Club. Other delegates to the convention were Mrs. Dan M. Russell Jr. of Bay St. Louis and Mrs. Clarence Evans of Waveland.
The club captured nine awards for their projects.
They included the green ribbon for an outstanding program of highway beautification and improvement, Mrs. Russell, chairman; certificate of merit for the State No. 9A flower show,. Mrs. John P. Newkirk, chairman and Mrs. Evans, co-chairman; the white ribbon for State No. 14 flower show schedule, Mrs. Russell and Mrs. Paul M. Miller Sr., chairmen; a certificate of merit for the Garden Club pilgrimage, Mrs. Charles Elliott, chairman; an honorable mention for State No. 13 publicity, Mrs. Numa Snider, chairman; and certificates of appreciation for participation in state projects, support care, and participation in the Horticulture Summer Seminar.
The junior gardeners of the Bay-Waveland Club also received a certificate of appreciation for outstanding participation in the Avenue of Magnolias.
