A ca.-1928 postcard heralds the “New Two-Mile Traffic Bridge Connecting Bay St. Louis and Pass Christian.” Construction on the 1928 bridge cost a whopping $800,000.
On the trip, Ayers was "pleased with Bay St.
Louis' ferry" as it was a "vital link connecting the West to the East."
Ayers also met with Bay St. Louis Mayor R.W. Webb, and City Attorney R. G. Genin and a committee of other representative citizens.
In the March 19,1921 issue of The Echo published the headlines, "Bay St. Louis Ferry will be on the job," "Atlanta team will play Milwaukee," and "Ferry will make extra trips (to) handle teams."
The story went on to say, ... "Not only baseball fans but all lovers of athletics will turn out to witness the game scheduled for tomorrow between Milwaukee and Atlanta baseball teams.
"Milwaukee boys are in training at Gulfport this spring. Atlanta club members are training in Bay St.
Louis (the Crackers were using St. Stanislaus College's field).
The coming together of these two professional teams will proved an unusual attraction. Atlanta will in a measure represent Bay St. Louis and many from here will take a particular interest in the game.
