MENTORIA. CAPT. BOARDMAN, FIRST ONE TO GO UP TO GEORGETOWN
Jan. - Feb., l8*+6 "Gainesville (Miss.) Advocate" -	Jan. 17, 18U6 - MA
An urgent recommendation was	made for formation	of	a Committee
since it is "of utmost importance	to citizens living	in	the
eastern section of this state and	in vicinity of EasI	Pearl	River
that obstructions to navigation be removed."
It was suggested £kekk to "appropriate »5f000 to admit steamboats drawing eighteen to twenty inches to pass from Gainesville to-Jackson at most seasons of the year."
It was suggested tfthat Representative B. S. Leonard from Hancock County use his office to obtain Legislative approval."
It was felt clearing the snags and bars, particularly at times of low water, would extend the shipping season and reduce rates to and from New Orleans for all river towns by one-half.
First objective would be to go from the town of Gainesville to the mouth of Vest pearl River.
January 2b issue of "Gainesville Advocate" reported the River
by flattest from Philadelphia in K.
cshoba County
