A booklet ontltlnd "Brewer, Douglas, Oinn Tamllies otc" published in 19^8 by Hiss Sarah Albort*0inn, born June 1080, nurse, teacher, scholar, shows that one Jesse Oinn born 1750 in England, came to America with his father or older brother, and sorved in the War of the Revolution. Jesse Olnn was twlcp married and there were 9 or 10 children by aach marriage. Tho names of only 5 children by the firet marriage are listedi Strouder, Hoses, Edmund or Edwin, Quirless, and a daughter. Hiss Olnn, the author, was a descendant of the second marriago and all children of the second marrJ.ige were covered in the booklet*
Could our Jeptha Oinn have been one of the children of Jesse's first marriage? If so, after Jesse?s second marriage, some of Jeptha*s brothers and sisters must have been members of his household in the earl/ census records.

Notice the name of the spoiling as OYNN. In British Names of families by Henry Barber, one finds that OYNN is of Trench origin and OINN is English. The name comes from the french word for engineer and denoted a post of great importanoe in the time* of many wars in the Hiddle Ages. There was never but one arms granted to this family according to Burke's General Armory. The name GINN ia of Anglo-Saxon or early Norman Fronch origin and some of the family went into Ireland. '
Tradition is that four brothers came to Hississippi Territory - one settled in what is now the State of Alabama, one settled in what is now Pike County, Hississippi, one in Lawrence County, Hississippi, and one somewhat nearer to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Early tax records show 160 acres of land on the Bogue Chitto River, assessed to Jesse Oinn (presently in Lawrence County); 160 acres on Hagees Creek near the Harion-Plke County line assessed to Jeptha Oinn; and records in the Hississippi Department of Archives and History show that Edwin Ginn, Edmond Ginn, Jesse Ginn, and Jeptha Ginn, all served in the War of 1812, leading to some speculation as to the tradition regarding four brothers, eto.
Be that as it may, our earliest proven ancestor is JEPTHA OINN and ho was in Washington County, Mississippi Territory, in 180J> wlmn he signod as potltloner to the President. Re also signed as petitioner to the House of Representatives on Nov. 7, 1805, an inhabitant of Washington County, relative to public lands.* Apparontly, Jeptha Oinn bought land in Lancaster County, S.C. in 1002, sold it late In 180), and moved to Hississippi Territory early in 180*1. ^Carters Papers.
