Ildephons Heitzmann - father of our Carl Heitzmann was bom on February 16, 1780 in Dantersbach, Germany based on his baptism record. He was listed as a ?vinegrower? (grape/wine) on the baptism record of his son, Carl. He was the son of Michael Heitzmann and Barbara Maile. He married Theresia Dold on December 16, 1811 in Gengenbach. He died January 24, 1835 in Schwaibach. On the second marriage record of his son, Carl in New Orleans, LA his parents are listed as ?Alphonse Heitzmann and Theresa Dold.? Ildephons had at least one half-brother (same father but different mothers) called Michael Heitzmann (born October 8, 1796) who married Magdalena Schwarz as previously covered herein.
Michael Heitzmann - father of Ildephons Heitzmann, born on August 9, 1748 in Dantersbach, Germany. He was the son of Johann Adam Heitzmann and Anna Maria Bihler. He died on September 2, 1807 and was a ?winegrower? in Dantersbach. He married twice. First, to Barbara Maile on April 13, 1779 in Gengenbach, and she died on November 15, 1788. Second, he married Katharina Wussler on February 23, 1789. He had at least one child by Maile (Ildephons) and several by Wussler to include:
I.	Joannes Paulus - christened May 20, 1791 in Dantersbach
II.	Maria Catharina - b. August 20, 1795 in Dantersbach
III.	Franciscus Michael - b. October 7, 1796 in Dantersbach
IV.	Catharina - b. July 30, 1799 in Dantersbach
Johann Adam Heitzmann - father of Michael Heitzmann, bom on October 28, 1713 in Dantersbach, Germany, the son of Johann Martin Heitzmann and Katharina Lutz. He was a ?bauer? (farmer) by trade. He married Anna Maria Bihler on April 27, 1746 in Gengenbach. He died on February 4, 1779 in Dantersbach.
Johann Martin Heitzmann - father of Johann Adam Heitzmann, born on October 15, 1690 in Dantersbach, Germany, the son of Zacharias Heitzmann/Heizmann and Katharina Schrempp. He died in Mittelbach (a village now part of Gengenbach) on October 19, 1732 and was a farmer by trade. He married Katharina Lutz c. 1712. It appears Johann Martin's wife died, and he later married Magdalena Bentz on May 22, 1717 in Gengenbach. They had:
I.	Anna Maria - christened July 16, 1719 in Mittelbach, Gengenbach, Germany
II.	Catharina - christened May 18, 1721 in Mittelbach
III.	Andreas - christened November 3, 1722 in Mittelbach
IV.	Franz Joseph - christened March 11, 1724 in Mittelbach
V.	M. Magdalena - christened April 27, 1727 in Reichenbach
VI.	Martin - christened November 1728 in Gengenbach.
Zacharias Heitzmann/Heizmann - father of Johann Martin Heitzmann, bom c. 1653 in Harmersbach, Germany (small village now part of Zell, Germany which is also near Gengenbach). While the baptism records in the church in Zell start in 1654, we do not have his baptism record, but we have his siblings starting in 1655. He was the son of Christophorus Heizmann and Maria Lehmann.
He married Katharina Schrempp on November 17, 1674 in Dantersbach and was a farmer according to his marriage record. He died in Dantersbach. The spelling of the last name seems to change at this point. The most likely explanation is that the priest misspelled it, or the Heitzmann family in this area were illiterate and were not sure of the correct spelling of their name.
