HANCOCK COUNTY (Bay St. Louis Conveyance Records)
We had learned from the January 9, 1897 newspaper that N. G. Scott had apparently purchased the Hackney home" on the beach in Bay St. Louis. I checked the conveyance records of Hancock County to see if I could find any such entry. I did not see N.
G. Scott's name mentioned anywhere in the public conveyance and mortgage	records. However, I may have gone	too fast	and I may
not have	really	understood what I was doing	so I am reluctant	to
rely on what I did. I did see the following Scott's listed but the book	that I	was looking in goes all the	way back	to 1840
through 1912 or	something like that so some	of these	would be
that far back. I saw a J. Scott transaction mentioned in Book D, Page 97; a Mrs. C. A. Scott transaction in Book D, Page 257; an Emily Scott transaction noted in Book E, Page 608; a James Scott transaction in Book F, Page 425; a G. Scott transaction mentioned in Book F, Page 581; a James Scott transaction mentioned in Book G, Page 281; a Christina Scott transaction in Book H, Page 637; an Emily Scott transaction in Book I, Page 446; an Andrew Scott transaction in Book J., Page 227; an A. W. Scott transaction found in Book M, Page 575; an Andrew Scott transaction in Book K, Page 411 and another Andrew Scott transaction in Book K, Page 420.
I also looked in the public conveyance record under the name of Hackney. In a very quick look the only place I saw a Hackney mentioned was in a transaction involving August Keller who was a former mayor of Bay St. Louis and did live at the same time that the Scotts were there. This transaction was recorded at Book 0, Page 390. I did not have an opportunity to examine this transaction.
