1711 and certainly was not married at age 11. Thus, he could not be the son of John and Susannah Stanford. Who are these two John Stanfords? We will let others figure this out.
There are several other versions on Ancestory.com that link our Joshua Stanford, Sr. to other families of Stanfords. Their sources are circumstantial at best, even if they listed any. Keep in mind that there were numerous Stanfords, Standfords, Standforths, etc. living in Maryland in the 1600s and 1700s. There were multiple Stanfords using the names John, Jonathan, Joseph, Joshua, etc. at that time. It is easy to see how others could make mistakes researching this family.
A special thanks goes to Herbert W. Stanford, III from Morehead, NC. His website, HERBSTANFORD.NET, and his various “notations” found on Ancestry.com, were nicely presented. His information also parallels the conclusions we have reached in this paper.
We will now identify the descendants of John and Delila Stanford and the information we have collected on each. They are:
I. Nancy E. Stanford — bom on August 20, 1799, according to the John Stanford, Sr. Bible and research has determined that she was bom in Somerset County,
Maryland. Much of the following information is from a report in our files that was supplied by Robert J. Baxter. In his 25 page report from 1967, he shared his research on the Baxter and related families. He said Nancy was bom in Maryland and married Thomas W. Baxter on January 22, 1820, in Marion County, MS. She died in Marion County on January 24, 1872. Mr. Baxter believes that Thomas W. Baxter lived with John and Delila Stanford two or three years before he married their oldest daughter. Nancy Baxter and seven of her children are found in the 1850 Marion County census, and it says she was bom in Maryland. Nancy and Thomas Baxter’s children were:
A.	James S. Baxter - bom January 21, 1822, and died February 22, 1908. He married Sarah Rouse on December 20, 1849, in Marion County, lived in Marion County, and had a large family.
B.	Letitia E. Baxter - bom December 28, 1824, and died December 24, 1909, in Denham Springs, LA. She married Henry Knight Summers on November
5,	1846, in Marion County.
C.	Elizabeth A. Baxter - bom on September 16, 1825, and died on December 7, 1902, in Ocean Springs, MS. She married January 22, 1844, to Hiram H.
Friar and had a Seafood business in that city.
D.	Nathan Land Baxter - bom July 14, 1826, and died August 3, 1911, as found on his headstone. He never married but lived on the old Baxter place in Baxterville, MS, until his death.
