who knew him. He married Lillian ?Lillie" Ladner and had two children and

Her baptismal record at Our Lady of the Gulf Church shows her birthday to be October 28, 1863. She was born in the Bayou La Croix Community and lived her entire life there. She never married nor had any children.
E.	Joseph Albert ?Joe? Zengerling - born on August 13, 1866 and died on August
19,	1950 as listed on his headstone in the Bayou La Croix Catholic Cemetery. His baptismal record is found at Our Lady of the Gulf Church in Bay St. Louis, MS. It lists his name as ?Albert Mathias John Joseph Zingerling.? It names both parents and is in Baptismal Book 1, page 146. It was this branch of the family that started using the ?Z-e-n-g-a-r-l-i-n-g? version for the spelling of their last name. Joe was born in Bayou La Croix, MS and lived his entire life there. He was a tree farmer and raised cattle, along with other farm products. His daughter, Velma A. Heitzmann, told us that they were almost completely self-sufficient and when the ?Great Depression? came, they were not hurt at all.
Joe was a very religious man when it came to his Catholic faith. Some said that as long as they knew him, he never got upset or angry. His home was open to anybody, anytime. Velma often told us that she would have to prepare food for ?a pile of people? when they dropped in unexpectedly. With her being the oldest female in the home after her mother?s death in 1928, whom do you think ?Papa Joe? asked to start preparing the meals?
From all accounts, the family was a happy one and made lots of good memories. We have photographs of Joe Zengarling, his wife, and all his children should anyone need them. The family home was located in the N/E quarter, of the N/E quarter of Section 28, Township 9 South, Range 15 West in Hancock County, MS. The home was moved in 1963 to Ansley, MS where it sits today. The move was prompted by the land take-over by the government to build Stennis Space Center.
Joe Zengarling married on January 18, 1894 to Mary Keziah McArthur.
Mary was bom in Gainesville, MS on February 20, 1877 and died October 5, 1928. She has a nice obituary in the October 12, 1928 edition of the Sea Coast Echo newspaper. They were married in Our Lady of Good Hope Church, and the record was filed at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church. She was the daughter of Thomas Jefferson McArthur and Matilda ?Tildie? Brown. Mary?s family will be covered in separate papers dealing with the McArthurs, Browns, Lotts, etc. They had ten children. Their birth dates were taken from Joe Zengarling?s own family bible. There are many other sources that support these dates.
