Physically, Joe in mid-life was 5?8? tall, 135 lbs., blue eyes, and brown hair. Velma Heitzmann also told us how her parents met. She said her mother, Mary, was raised in the Hickory Creek Community of Hancock County, and when she was 16, she came to the Bayou La Croix Community to visit some Seal Cousins. The Seal girls asked her if she wanted to visit the Zengarling family in the area. They took a buggy ride to the old Zengarling home on the Bayou La Croix Bayou looking for Joseph Zengarling who was supposed to be good looking and not married. They were told Joe was ?building his own home? approximately one mile from his family?s home, and this is where Joe and Mary first met. Joseph was engaged at that time to Edwina Holden, and it was for her the house was being built. A few weeks later, Mary received a letter from Joe and the relationship began which ended in their marriage a short time later. They lived in this ?small? home until 1936 when they tore it down and built the current home which is now located in Ansley, MS. All their children were bom in the origional ?smaller? home. Joseph A. Zengarling and Mary K. McArthur had the following children:
1.	Marie Matilda ?Mary? or ?Mamie? Zengarling - born on January 15, 1895 in Bayou La Croix and died on December 30, 1962 in Ansley, MS. She is buried in the Lakeshore Cemetery. She married Edward Victor Ladner on October 12, 1922, as found on her marriage record in the Annunciation Church, Kiln, MS and moved to Ansley, MS where she spent the rest of her life. They had the following children:
a.	Joseph Samuel Ladner - bom August 18, 1923
b.	Leo Clarence Ladner - bom February 22, 1926
c.	Mary ?Ethel? Ladner - born February 21, 1928
d.	Georgie Marcelline Ladner - born February 22, 1931
e.	George Edward Ladner - born February 22,	1931
f.	Anna Jean Ladner - born April 21, 1933
g.	John Robert ?Bobby? Ladner - born August	6, 1937
h.	Evelyn Agnes Ladner - bom November 12,	1938
2.	John Albert ?Johnnie? Zengarling - born on March 1, 1897, died on September 1, 1964 and is buried in the Bayou La Croix Cemetery. He lived all of his life in Bayou La Croix and was a farmer and timber merchant.
He married Ethel E. Sylvestor on June 20, 1937. They had no children, but Johnnie had one child, Eveda Louella Moran Ladner, born on December 4,
1937.	She died in Kiln, MS on August 26, 2004 and is buried in Rotten Bayou Cemetery. Her mother, Louella Moran, was Johnnie?s cousin, who was not married, nor did she ever marry and only had this one child, named Eveda. Louella was employed as a housekeeper/cook at the home of Johnnie?s Uncle Matthew ?Mott? Zengarling.
The story is that Johnny was engaged to Ethel and when Louella became pregnant, Johnny denied that the baby was his because it would have caused major problems with his engagement to Ethel. We have Eveda?s birth certificate and it has ?Johnny Zingarling? listed as her father. While some
